High Five for Friday

Hello! I'm linking up with Jennie today to share some fun stuff from the past week.

1) On Saturday, Grant started swimming lessons! He was really excited about and is even more excited to go back tomorrow. He's definitely the least experienced of his group but I think he'll get the hang of it. He didn't want to go under water at all and by the end of the first session they had him sticking his head under!

2) Also on Saturday, I got to make an elephant themed baby shower cake! It was a for a good friend's brother and his wife. I've been able to make all the baby shower cakes for their family :)

When I saw this fabric, I had to make them a blanket too!
3) Grant loves to demonstrate his "ninja moves" for us.

4) Isn't kids artwork the best?? This elephant made my day!

5) One of Grant's favorite teachers turns 21 today, so we made her a cake to help her celebrate! ("We" meaning Grant helped me add a couple things to the batter and then told everyone at school that he made the cake.)

Happy Friday everyone!
Have a great weekend!

High Five for Friday

Hi! Today I'm linking up Jennie to share some of my favorite stuff from the past week. Honestly, I've had a pretty terrible week so it's nice to go back and think about the stuff that made me smile this week.

1) Last weekend was gorgeous! I went for walks that I desperately needed. Grant & I played outside a lot and took bike rides. It was such perfect weather.
Grant was ecstatic when he got to ride through the puddles!
2) On Saturday we went to our first outdoor movie! A couple parks around do this from time to time and we never get to go. This time they were showing Planes Fire & Rescue - one of Grant's favorites! So I popped an obscene amount of popcorn, packed a cooler, some chairs, and we enjoyed a fun family movie night at the park.
We ate popcorn for days!
Waiting for the movie to start
Hooray!
3) On Sunday we made wind cars from the mini crate I ordered from Kiwi Crate. It was so much fun for both of us. We had races in the kitchen by blowing on them and we were both laughing so hard! I've decided to try out a regular subscription just to see if we like it.
I did have to help but he got to do a lot too. It was
a great activity to do together.
He loved how they worked!

4) I sent a tray of goodies to school for the staff as a thank you for Teacher Appreciation Week. I hope they enjoyed them, they definitely deserve them!
Caramel snickerdoole bars, twix chocolate chip cookies,
and some personalized Hershey kisses.
5) I love Grant's artwork, especially now that he's drawing things that are recognizable. My favorites ever so far is his first picture of me (I look like an orange on two toothpicks) and the family picture he drew for us (we all look like oranges on toothpicks). This week he brought home my third favorite. A brachiosaurus being struck by lightning while eating a leaf (he also told Husband that there is lava but you can't see it because it's far far away but it made the lightning).

6) Last night I finished up a cake for the daughter of friend. She's worked really hard to become a nurse practitioner and I'm so glad I was able to make this cake for her party tonight. Congrats to her!

Happy Friday everyone!
Have a great weekend!

High Five for Friday

Hi there! Today I'm linking up Jennie to share some of my favorite stuff from the past week.

1) Last weekend I made and delivered this fun beach themed birthday cake!
It was my first attempt at making palm trees!
2) On Saturday we went to a birthday party for Grant's best friend. He was so excited that he couldn't get to sleep Friday night, woke up early Saturday morning, and asked every hour if it was time to go to the party. The party was at a place that teaches circus-type aerial tricks and the kids had fun swinging and playing around. It's always so fun to watch Grant play with his friends!

3) Sunday, we went to the park for a walk and some playtime.

4) And I made Grant this fun mask:

5) My co-worker and, as she calls herself, "work mom" is retiring this week. We had a little celebration for her yesterday and I made her this cake:

6) Have you ever heard of a hot brown sandwich? Maybe I watch too much food TV but I've been wanting to try one forever. Last night for dinner I gave it a shot and holy crap was it good! I used THIS simplified version from Kraft. But I found a baked potato version online somewhere as well and I think I'll be giving that a try soon!
I actually can't stand tomato so I made a couple without it for me
but Husband and Grant enjoyed the tomato ones :)
Happy Friday everyone!
Have a great weekend!

High Five for Friday

Today I'm linking up Jennie to share some of my favorite stuff from the past week.

1) Actually this was last Thursday, not last Friday but since I was off on Halloween I baked a fun treat to share at the office. I think this is the third year in a row that I've made this cake, so this year I added green to it. It's always such a hit and no one seems bored with it yet :)
Fun on the outside...
...and on the inside!
2) Friday was Halloween! I took the day off and tried to make this year special for Grant with some good trick-or-treating and fun dinner too. (You can read more about the day HERE)
Ready to trick-or-treat at a local park!
With the spooky scarecrow at one of our neighbor's houses!
(He loved these decorations!)
3) Saturday we went to Chuck E. Cheese (a first for me and Grant) to celebrate the birthday of one of Grant's school friends. Grant's BFF was there and two of them were stuck together like glue. Its so fun to watch them play together!

4) At some point last weekend (Sunday?) I got out for a run. I wasn't really feeling it but I still managed 3 miles. Sometimes I consider it an accomplishment to just make it home without having to call for a ride.

5) I got to make two birthday cakes this week! My friend & co-worker Janis got a fun little chocolate peanut butter cake for one that I've been wanting try. And Husband requested a Red Sox cake for his friend & co-worker Barry who turned 50 this week. I was really excited about how they both turned out (though as a Yankees fan, that Red Sox cake hurt my soul!)!
Fun little cake for Janis!
Red Sox cake for Barry!
Happy Friday everyone!
Have a great weekend!

High Five for Friday

Today I'm linking up with Lauren and Jennie to share some of my favorite stuff from the past week.

1) As Grant's "big" birthday present, we (yes, WE) built him a sandbox! I was really nagging Husband about getting it built and filled because I wanted it done before his actual birthday so the kids at his party could play. We got it set up the weekend before but last Friday finally got some sand for it. It rained so the first time Grant really got to play in it was Saturday at his party with his friends.
Take Sunday morning after his party but it's a nice shot of
our handy work :) While playing Grant told me "I love this sandbox!"
2) Saturday we had Grant's birthday party! I love his birthdays and planning his parties. The older he gets the more excited he gets and he was beside himself with excitement waiting for the day to get here. And he had the best day! (More on the party HERE)
The Avengers cake I made him
Me and my sister-in-law, Hollie, having too much fun with
the masks I made for the kids!
3) Monday was Grant's first day of pre-K! Or, as he calls it, "pre-K school". It was a bit bittersweet (because along with pre-K comes instant talk of kindergarten) but he was so excited!

4) Monday night we stayed out too late and went to a Durham Bulls baseball game. We ended up staying the whole game (we were off the next day for Grant's real birthday) and the Bulls won and won their division championship. It was a really fun night (and I discovered my new favorite ballpark treat: an Italian ice topped with frozen custard - life changing!).
Me & Grant in our awesome Yankees jerseys...and
Husband in that crappy White Sox one (hehehe).

5) We took Tuesday off to spend the day with Grant for his actual birthday. He got to pick what we did, he chose the zoo. It was blissfully uncrowded and we had a great day! (P.S. I still haven't fed a giraffe.)

Happy Friday!
Have a great weekend!
