Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My St. Patty's Day gift to everyone :) This was sent to me today by a friend and I wanted to share. It definitely made me smile...and almost made my coffee come out of my nose (third degree burns in my nostrils...ouch!).

Sippy Cup Madness

On Saturday Grant's mood - not his eating habits - seemed to have improved. I decided to try out the sippy cup. Mostly water with a little bit of apple juice. It went better than I expected. I figured the cup would be thrown all over the place (I bought "leak proof" sippy cups) but it wasn't. He either knew that it was supposed to go somewhere in the vicinity of his mouth...or, like everything else lately, he just wanted to chew on it. I'm not entirely sure how much liquid actually ended up in his mouth but he had some fun playing with it.

Ooooh...what's this?
I think there's something in there.

Now how do I get to it?

Daddy tried to help show him where to put it.

And helped him hold it there...

But he figured out that if he laid down it was much easier.

Daddy either catching him or tipping him backward to help with the flow.

When he got tired of holding it...he just clamped it between his gums.
I heart the bumbo seat.

Day 2 with the sippy cup

More of the same. He likes to prop it against something to keep it in his mouth.

But every once in a while he gets the hang of it.

Update on the hunger strike: we're 99% sure he's teething. It can't be anything else. So it looks like we're going to have to cancel our appearance on the Maury show about anorexic babies.

First Fruit...

Pears. And they didn't go over well. I thought it was because he'd had such a rough time with the shots. But maybe he didn't like them? That would be a first. He's eaten every vegetable we've given him and practically begged for more. Maybe he wasn't a fan of the sweetness? Possibly. But whatever it was, he didn't finish the container. Definitely a first. When we first started real food the doctor said when he turns his head away, he's done. He never did that until the pears.

The first bite always goes in easy.

Processing...

Break my heart! Look at that tear from crying
about the pain in his chubby little legs.

I don't know if I want any more.
At least I can still make him smile :)
Sleepy after such a hard day.

Mommy, I am so over these pears.
As a side note, Grant seems to be on a hunger strike. Since his shots Thursday he's not been eating with as much enthusiasm as usual and even fights us when we give him his bottle. He's only finishing his morning bottles, the rest of the day we're lucky if he gets even 4-5 ounces in him. And last night he finished a container of vegetables (with coaxing) for the first time since Wednesday night (before the shots). Very strange and unGrant-like. We're hoping it's just a reaction to the shots or a phase that he's going through. I'm putting a call into the doctor soon but I keep asking myself...what can they do about it? How in the world do you make a 6 month old eat??

Improvising in the Kitchen

Thursday night I made one of my favorite meals for dinner. Chicken Cordon Bleu. Mmmm...chicken, ham, melty cheese...does it get any better? I have to say, I'm a little proud of this meal. I watched my mom make it for years, so I don't have a recipe for it and I know mine isn't as good as hers. She always used diluted cream of chicken soup for her sauce on top of the chicken so that's how I've always done mine. Well, by accident, my Chicken Cordon Bleu got an upgrade. I like to cook my chicken without the sauce so while the chicken was in the oven I went for the cream of chicken soup to make the sauce. That soup is a staple in my kitchen and guess what? No soup! Uh oh. Plan B: make a chicken gravy with some chicken broth (another of my kitchen staples). No chicken broth! What do I do now? Chicken Cordon Bleu has to have sauce, that's how I've always eaten it. Plan C: What do I have? So I made a roux (equal parts flour & butter) added some milk and fat free half & half, added some chicken broth made from some bouillon granules I had and then a little bit of spicy mustard for a kick. It was delicious! I had Nate taste it and he said he was impressed...success! I doubt I'll go back to the cream of chicken sauce. And we even go to enjoy the meal before Grant's reaction to his shots went downhill.

Yummy! We had it with rice and fresh green beans sauted in olive oil. It was just a box rice dish but it was good. And I even put a little bit of the sauce on the beans. Sometimes I think I shouldn't make things like this because it really makes me look lazy when all I make are BLTs and tater tots.

Ha!

It's no secret to those that know me that I am easily amused. But come on, tell me this isn't funny! I was looking at the Easter candy in Wal-mart the other night (I seem to have inhertited my mothers fascination with seasonal candy) and I came across this chocolate bunny. His name is Dude Bunny...but I'm sure that's only because they weren't allowed to call him "Gangsta Bunny".

Dude Bunny. I had to take the picture with my phone. Husband wanted to buy it
just so we could take it home for "real" pictures. Weird. But it may still end up at our house.
